How to use this map
This guide explains the main controls on the map so a new user can understand what each section does and how to start exploring the data.
Start with a location
Type a city, town, address, or general location into the location bar and click Go. The map will zoom to that place. Use Whole US to jump back out to the full country view.
Turn on layers
The Layers menu includes both nationwide data and state-specific data. You can turn on things like crashes, traffic data, shoulder width, county lines, municipality lines, springs, bridges, and more depending on the state.
Road and trail datasets
The Road/Trail Datasets menu shows segmented road and trail networks for supported states. These are the interactive road and trail features you can inspect and rate.
Add ratings
Turn on a road or trail dataset, then open Ratings. Click a PA road or trail segment on the map to view existing ratings and save your own rating for that segment.
Inspect map data
Use Tools → Inspect to click map features and see their attached data. This is useful for checking what a layer contains before deciding how you want to use it.
Report conditions or submit edits
Use Map Conditions to report closures, hazards, and other issues. Use Submit if you want to request a road or trail change, or draw your own missing feature on the map.
